Each parish elected an elder and a council. After their election they made a team which was called the “elders council”. Volissos elected 2 elders. The elders resolved the arguments of Christians and had the right to be addressed to the elders of Chios city. If a Turk was indented to harm the village the elders would defend it.

Today the town of Volissos is divided in three districts:
the Hori, the Pirgos and the Pithonas. The local tradition reports that Pithonas district was the lair of a dragon. Seaport of Volissos is Limnia.
