The tower

The Tower constituted the defensive and administrative centre of village, the "heart" of the village. It was an enormous building that was built when Genouates possessed the village and is constituted by ground floor and two floors. Unfortunately its interior is almost devastated.
Round the tower were shaped big yard with wall and with a small round tower (pyrgopoulo) in each one of the four corners. Today only two small towers are preserved in the southern side. Many houses have been built through that wall so that someone can not distinguish the gate of the entrance or other details. The tower in the years of Ottoman domination was abandoned and began to demolish slowly. The earthquake of 1881 destroyed almost its Eastern side and caused crack in the westerner. From 1892 began the reconstruction of houses inside the tower. Today eight houses are built in its whole extent. In 1937, with decision of Community, three metres from the upper part of each aspect were ruined because of the danger to fall. The Stone was used, in order to build the yard of school.
