The planning of the village

The form of the settlement initially, was a closed square with dense urban web. The remote houses of the settlement were built in continuous line without doors or windows to the exterior part. Thus, took shape a new wall that surrounded the settlement. In each corner of the square, a small tower (pyrgopoylo) was built (nowadays only two are saved). In the center, a tower was raised which was surrounded by walls. Today the new houses that have been built changed this initial form. Round the Tower we meet the “Square”, a road ring that is called “the Walk” and the neighborhood of “Foreigner”. The northern side is interrupted by newer buildings, goes through from the fringe of southern side of square and is connected with the street of Patasas. Names as Down Door, Above Door declare that the entrance was possible at least from two gates that closed the evening and in case of raids.
The arcs above the streets that support the cylindrical domes of rooms are an identifying characteristic of the village. Most streets are narrow, dark, while the bows with rounded form give a mysterious character.
The houses are made of stone, and have two levels, (those with three levels had stables where they kept the animals). Also, in the interior of the house was the staircase that led to the aithrio, the center of medieval house that served each movement.
The domes were made of plates and stones and they are round arcs, with cylindrical infiltrations. The rooms were covered by mortar, while the loft was useful for exhibiting agricultural products, for sleep or for meetings.
The village was also connected with observation decks (vigles), some of which are still saved. Placed in a spot with good view, allowed the observers to notify the village in case of emergency (raids of enemies or pirates).
