In order to become the mastic embroidery and harvest it is essential to become certain preliminary works. Initially it should be cleaned the ground under the plant as to become the collection of the mastic that will fall under the tree, easily. This process begins at the end of June and becomes with various tools, as shovels and trowels. It follows the cleaning of the region by sweeping using a common or hand-made broom. At the end the region under the tree is covered with argil which is pressed in order to create a spoil surface. The argil helps mastic to congeal. Moreover, because the argil is constituted by carbonic calcium (CaCO3) it is inactive material and it does not influences the mastic attributes and cleanliness. If the ground that will be placed mastic it is not argil, then the mastic that falls above it loses its shine and it become darker. It is created the “black-mastic” that is not marketable. After the completeness of these works, mastic trees are ready for the embroidery that begins on 15 July. |
