Antiquity

The homeland of mastic is Chios island. Indisputable testimony of that is the existence of mastic tree fossil leaves that found in Chios, aged 6 million years.

Moreover, it has not been cultivating so methodically as Chios, anywhere. The first information about mastic comes from the historian Hyrodoto, the 5th century B.C. Theofrastos, Dioskouridis, Plinios and Galinos have been referenced on mastic too. The hearsay of mastic is expanded by the 10th century and afterwards with further reports of visitors in the mastic tree fields.

According to Hippocrates, Theofrasto, Dioskoyridi, Plinio, and Galino and the information they note about the mastic mainly concerns in its ableness to heal.

In the Bible become further reports in mastic tree than in the mastic production, we can find an example in Prophet Daniel book.
