Anavatos is a unique fortress of medieval architecture. In the tallest point of its rock you meet the Acropolis, where the old medieval village with the eminent Castle was built. It is shaped like a cone, rising  450 metres above the surface of the Chian sea.
The village is a compact total of home-fortress, windows, bastions, domes, arches and dissolved walls. Most houses are abandoned and devastated, while others are well preserved. Particularly in the lower part of the village exist houses which are inhabited by residents, who use them for their summer vacation. The upper part of the village has been characterized archaeological territory and the archaeological service has undertaken its restoration and preservation.
